The programme

An intensive, compact one-year diploma

The diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is offered by the Lebanese University — Faculty of Sciences. It is designed for ambitious people from any academic background and provides a fast-track entry into the rapidly growing fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The programme is built for rapid skill acquisition and a quicker entry into the AI and ML workforce. It blends theoretical grounding with hands-on practice, so graduates leave with the competencies employers are actually asking for.

Accelerated career entry

Gain the essential AI and ML skills and a recognised qualification in a single year.

Comprehensive fundamentals

Despite its compact format, the curriculum covers the fundamental concepts and the practical applications needed for a solid command of applied AI.

Hybrid learning

Theoretical lectures, tutorials and discussions run online. Hands-on labs run on site, and all written exams are held on campus.

Built for diverse backgrounds

Open to bachelor's degree holders from any discipline. Preparatory courses are integrated for students who need the foundations in programming, mathematics and statistics.

Applied and industry-focused

Real-world case studies and projects, focused on regionally relevant challenges, so you are ready for the job market.

Ethics throughout

Ethical considerations and responsible AI practice are woven through the curriculum, not bolted on at the end.

Assessment and evaluation

Students are evaluated through a variety of methods that take into account both theoretical understanding and practical application. The distribution of grades is tailored to the learning objectives of each course.

General components include quizzes, assignments, projects and written exams. All written exams are held on site and are not available online, which keeps evaluation standardised and secure. There are two examination sessions: if you do not pass a written exam in the first session, you may retake it in the second.

Who can apply

Admission requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from any recognised university, in any discipline.
  • An assessment process — review of academic transcripts, and possibly an interview — to determine your foundational knowledge.
  • Applicants without a background in programming, mathematics or statistics complete the September–October preparatory courses.

After the diploma

Where it leads

  • Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer
  • AI Specialist or NLP Engineer
  • AI or Data Analyst
  • Computer Vision Specialist
  • AI Product Development / Project Manager
  • AI Consultant / Advisor for Businesses

Fees and special conditions

The total tuition fee for the one-year diploma, including the preparatory courses, is set as follows. Fees are payable in US dollars or the equivalent in Lebanese pounds.

2400 USD

registration fee for the full academic year

For students holding a bachelor's degree from universities other than the Lebanese University.

800 USD

registration fee for the full academic year

For students holding a bachelor's degree from the Lebanese University.

Military and security personnel

Students currently serving in any Lebanese military or security field — the Lebanese Army, General Security, the Internal Security Forces or State Security — are considered equivalent to Lebanese University graduates and are eligible for the 800 USD annual rate.

Academic calendar

How the year runs

The diploma operates on an annual cycle. This calendar is provisional and may be adapted to prevailing circumstances.

  1. September–October

    Preparatory courses

Admitted students who need foundations in programming, mathematics or statistics take these courses over September and October. Spreading them across two months keeps the pace realistic and makes sure everyone is ready before the core curriculum begins.

  2. October → July

    Core diploma courses

The main academic year runs continuously from October to the end of July, including the periods set aside for examinations. Students taking the preparatory courses follow both in parallel during October.

  3. Two sessions

    Examinations

All written exams are held on campus. Students have two examination sessions; a written exam not passed in the first session can be retaken in the second.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need a computer science degree?

No. The diploma is open to holders of a bachelor's degree in any discipline. Students who lack the programming, mathematics or statistics background take the September–October preparatory courses, which are included in the fee.

Is the programme online or on campus?

Both. Theoretical lectures, tutorials and discussions are online. Hands-on labs are on site, and all written exams are held on campus.

How deep does the theory go?

The programme is applied. You learn the principles and the technologies well enough to build real systems with them, without the depth of mathematical theory a research degree would require.

What happens if I fail a written exam?

There are two examination sessions each year. A written exam you do not pass in the first session can be retaken in the second.

Does the fee cover the preparatory courses?

Yes. The annual fee includes the preparatory (freshman) courses for the students who need them.

What do I do after I reserve a place?

The faculty contacts you to confirm your file, review your transcript, arrange a placement assessment if needed, and complete the official enrolment.
